Getting started
Updated
PgFlow-ai is a desktop IDE for PostgreSQL on Windows, macOS and Linux. This page takes you from download to your first query and your first trace.
1. Install
Download the installer for your system from the download page:
- Windows 10/11 x64: run the
.msi. - macOS 13 or later: open the
.dmgfor your Mac (Apple silicon or Intel) and drag PgFlow-ai to Applications. - Debian / Ubuntu x64:
sudo apt install ./pgflow-ai_1.0.1_amd64.deb.
The installers are self-contained, so there is nothing else to install. See Installation for details.
2. Start the trial or activate
The first time you open the app it shows the license screen, which also displays this computer’s machine ID.
- Press Start free trial for 14 days with every feature. No email, account or card is needed. There is one trial per computer.
- If you already bought a license, enter your activation code instead. See Activating a license.
3. Connect to a server
Click Connect in the toolbar (or New Connection… on the Start Page) and enter the host, port, database, user and password. Saved connections appear in the Database Explorer on the left and are shared with the profiler.
PgFlow-ai supports PostgreSQL 12 and later.
4. Look around
- Database Explorer: every object type, with context menus, a filter and optional system objects. The Properties panel below it shows details of the selected object.
- Start Page: shortcuts to the development, design, data and administration tools.
- New SQL: opens a SQL editor with completion from the live catalog. Press the Execute button to run the script, or run just the current statement or the selection.
- Find Object: searches object names and source code across a database.
- Theme: switch between light and dark from the toolbar.
Each tool opens as a document tab, so you can keep a SQL editor, a diagram, a compare and a trace open side by side.
5. Run your first trace
Open Profiler ▸ New Trace… (Ctrl+Alt+N), pick your connection and press Run. If you can’t change server settings, choose the Activity_Sampler template, which works without any server change. The Profiler quick start explains the options.
