System requirements

Updated

Operating system

Platform Package
Windows 10 or Windows 11, x64 .msi installer
macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple silicon (M1 and newer) .dmg disk image (arm64)
macOS 13 Ventura or later, Intel .dmg disk image (x64)
Debian or Ubuntu, x64 (amd64) .deb package

The installers bundle everything the app needs, including the PostgreSQL client library (libpq).

PostgreSQL server

  • PostgreSQL 12 or later. Tested against 13, 16 and 17.
  • Any server you can reach with a normal PostgreSQL connection, including cloud and managed services. Features that read the server log or change server settings depend on the privileges your provider grants.
  • Some features use newer capabilities when available, for example EXPLAIN (GENERIC_PLAN) on PostgreSQL 16+.

Query Profiler

What a trace can capture depends on its sources:

Source Needs
Activity sampling (pg_stat_activity) The pg_read_all_stats role. Works out of the box.
Server log Statement logging enabled (the profiler can enable it with ALTER SYSTEM and restore it afterwards) and a way to read the log: pg_read_binary_file() (superuser or pg_read_server_files), a local file, or a command such as docker logs -f.
Statement statistics pg_stat_statements in shared_preload_libraries.
Showplan events auto_explain preloaded.

See Profiler quick start for the server settings each event needs.

Optional tools

  • Backup / Restore: pg_dump, pg_restore and psql of the server’s major version or newer.
  • AI Advisor: an account and API key with a supported AI provider, or a local Ollama. The default database tools for the advisor run through uvx (Postgres MCP Pro) or npx; built-in read-only tools work without either. See AI Advisor setup.

Network

The app needs internet access only to start the trial, to activate a license (which can also be done offline), and for the optional AI Advisor. There is no telemetry.
